9/1/2023 0 Comments Lineage w publisher![]() ![]() ![]() You can’t fully leave the game alone, as you still have to select quests and opt to complete them and collect your rewards later, but you can effectively run the game while doing another task and check in every 30 seconds or so to push a button and move on. Dungeons can be automated, as is PvP, if you like. Regular questing isn’t the only thing that’s automated. Close the menu, and wow! Your character just did a bunch of things for you! While your character does this, you can mess around in your menus, open chests, receive rewards from login bonuses, or play with your equipment and settings. You’ll take down monsters or perform actions in an optimal enough way, then run back to the quest giver and get your potions and coins. When you start, a feature called auto-questing is turned on that has your character run around and complete tasks without any input from you beyond accepting quests and rewards. What will shock most players the moment you leave the game’s brief prologue is that playing Lineage 2: Revolution doesn’t actually involve much actual…play. There’s some basic character hair customization, but gender selection is locked into particular races and it’s ridiculous that in the year of our Lord twenty-seventeen, I must either be a male human/dark elf or a female elf/dwarf. After a brief opening tutorial, you’ll be able to choose between four different races and three starting classes, which branch off into more complex classes at higher levels. Lineage 2 doesn’t hesitate to throw you into the thick of things. It isn’t an MMO built around any of the things I’ve already listed, but it does introduce some interesting mechanics that have me wondering what’s possible for the genre on mobile. Lineage 2: Revolution seeks to prove me both right and wrong about this. I don’t often think of mobile games as places where such experiences can live and thrive. I think of gorgeous scenery, competitive endgame, and engaging community activities. When I think of an MMORPG, I think of sprawling worlds like those in World of Warcraft or Guild Wars 2. Platforms: Android (Version reviewed), iOS January 10 with player numbers and rankings from Netmarble and Sensor Tower.By Rebekah Valentine 5 years ago For you, what makes an MMORPG an MMORPG? Netmarble is challenging our expectations with Lineage 2: Revolution, but it can’t fully break away from convention. Players take this on to level up, gaining more loot, and more. Netmarble is also expanding the Tower of Insolence by 10 floors, giving it a total of 70. According to Netmarble, these are “letters (‘2,’ ‘0,’ ‘1” or ‘8’) and various items (Blessed Scroll Selection Box, Auto-clear Bundle X3, Grade-A Quest Scroll Box, Grade-A Weapon Varnish, Grade-A Armor Varnish, Grade-B Accessory Varnish, 30,000 Adenas, and Enhance Scroll Selection Box) depend on the date of log-in.” It caps off with a new event that you can use these letters for rewards: You can get scroll bundles, too, and Adena (one of Lineage 2’s currencies) for finishing the quests.Īnd those logging into Lineage 2 before January 20 receive a special New Year’s gift: various letters and in-game items each day. Who knew?) The Aymel’s School - Growth Mentor event runs from now until January 16 and gives players automatic leveling after finishing five quests. Combine Equipment event runs now through January 17 and rewards players who for turning Grade-R Varnish boxes into Grade-S gear (I thought only Japanese games had S grades. The events focus on several aspects of Lineage 2, which features the fun of killing and looting enemies you’d find in games like Diablo with the big raids you get from PC MMOs (like 50-on-50 battles). It’s most popular in Russia, the firm said. And tracking firm Sensor Tower reports that Lineage 2: Revolution ranked 148 in the iOS and Android app stores in terms of first-time downloads last month. This has been a hit already for Netmarble, confirming it’s the first game to hit 5 million registered players in two months in the West in the company’s history. ![]()
